Recap: Crash Course on 3D Printing, CNC Machining and Laser Cutting

Last week we hosted another successful STEM Bootcamp for Educators – this time at Nansemond Suffolk Academy in Suffolk, Virginia.

We love this training because it incorporates SolidWorks CAD design software, Stratasys and MakerBot 3D printing, Denford CNC machining, and Universal Laser Systems laser cutting — all in one singular lesson plan for the classroom.

In teams, attendees used critical thinking skills to design, construct, test, and redesign a trebuchet. Given the opportunity to manipulate certain variables in their trebuchet designs, teams were charged with launching a projectile the farthest distance.

After a great deal of testing, design reiteration, and construction, it was finally competition time. Congrats to Team S.W.F.L.B. for the win they pulled out at the end!
